I Just Want to See Those Feet

Do you ever feel like giving up? Ever feel like throwing in the towel? Like you just can’t do it even one more second?

I do…

That’s when I just want to see those feet.

Do ever get overwhelmed by all of the evil in the world? Ever get tired of watching the bad guys win?

I do…

That’s when I just want to see those feet.

Do you ever get sick and tired of waiting for justice? Ever want you want when you want it – and that’s right now?

I do…

That’s when I just want to see those feet.

Do you ever get tired of the struggle? Tired of the battle? Tired of the fight?

I do…

That’s when I just want to see those feet.

I want to see those feet, those beautiful nail-pierced feet. I want to see them coming with the clouds and touching down on the Mount of Olives. I want to stand up and point to those feet and say “aha! I knew it! I told you that he was going to come back!” I want to cross my arms and give all of my enemies a good old fashioned “now your gonna get it” glare. “Okay Jesus. It’s time for you to let them really have it! Let er rip! Stick it to em good!”

But then I remember something…

Those beautiful feet paced to and fro in the Garden of Gethsemane the night before my Jesus died. Beads of blood-filled sweat dropped to the ground as he cried out in anguish. “Father, I don’t want to do this…” but then he thought about me. “I can’t let her die Father. So not my will but yours be done.”

Those beautiful feet willingly traveled the bloody road to Calvary, carrying a cross upon flesh that was ripped open and gaping from such a severe beating that he could not be recognized as a human. “She needs to be healed Father. So not my will but yours be done.”

Those beautiful feet endured one crushing blow of the hammer after another until the spike had ripped through his flesh and he was fastened securely to an instrument of shame. “She needs to be delivered from darkness Father. So not my will but yours be done.”

And from the time I was born, those precious feet have never left my side. They have pursued me with persistent love. They even stayed by my side during my detour into utter darkness. They refused to leave when I chose sin and rebellion over them. Even when I told them to get away from me they stayed put.

Since those beautiful feet have endured so much for me, I too must endure. I won’t give up. I won’t throw in the towel. I won’t allow the presence of evil in the world to overcome the hope that I have in Jesus. I won’t demand justice before the appointed time. I will keep fighting the good fight of faith.

And when I finally see those beautiful feet touching the Mount of Olives, I will fall down and worship. Instead of gloating over the destruction of my enemies, I will weep for them. “If only you had known how precious are these feet. If only you had received their tender love and mercy. If only you had known their grace and compassion. If only…”

Matthew 24:30
Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
