Video: Birthday Index Card Box + Blog Hop + GIVEAWAY

Hi there.

I send out a lot of cards. However, I’m not good about sending out birthday cards. I want to change that so I tried out a system that my mom has used for many years. It’s been working for me and I thought it might be helpful for you too! So… today’s video shares how to create a birthday card index box.

This little box is helping me to stay organized… send more birthday cards… and makes me happy!

To create the monthly card dividers, I used the coming-soon Paper Smooches File Folders die and colorful cardstocks. I also decided to laminate the dividers by placing them in some laminating pouches and running them through my laminator. The pouches are inexpensive (I got a ton but you can get a small package) and I was able to fit four dividers in one pouch. I cut all the dividers apart, leaving a small border of lamination around the edges so that I wouldn’t break the seal it created. I labeled each month with my label maker. Man – I love my label maker! (By the way – you could save a lot of time by using store-bought dividers. But what fun is that?!)

I wanted a title card for my index box, so I stamped a sentiment and a balloon image from Paper Smooches Birthday Bash stamp set using black ink. I colored in the balloons with my Copic Markers to match my cardstock dividers. Since the balloons overlap, you get some fun blending in between each color. I also laminated this piece to keep it nice and durable.

I created my own birthday index cards that have all the information you need to stay organized with birthdays. (You can download it HERE.) This will be so helpful when it’s time to send out Christmas cards too. Oh, and I got the clear index box at Amazon… but it is out of stock so my friends at Simon Says Stamp have some on order and will coming soon HERE.) Isn’t if fun!?

Now I tend to go overboard… but there are ways to simplify this project. You can always use regular dividers that come in most index boxes and use regular index cards instead of the ones I created. You can also just stamp the months of the year instead of using a label maker or just use cardstock dividers without the lamination. Regardless of how you create it, I really hope the idea of a birthday index card box is helpful to you.

What a great idea Jennifer. I use the calendar on my refrigerator which works well except those birthdays that are right at the beginning of any given month. I think I need to switch over to this idea.

I just finished my index card box but I thought of something that would be a great addition: Could you adapt your template to be for wedding anniversaries? And maybe some blank ones with holiday titles, like Valentine’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.
Thanks so much Jennifer! Love your work and ideas!!

  41. Susan Bonn says:

Omg–I wish I could get organized like that. Someday…….

  42. Barbara S says:

I have a typewritten list in excel that I use and it has worked for me for the most part, but I love this. I’m retired now, but when I was working part of my responsibility was to monitor expiring contracts. Contracts expiring in January would be put in my December “Come Up File” (items that were “coming up for attention”). When I was done with December that section was moved to the back and January was in the front – when I was done with January that would be moved to the back and February would be in front. What I like most about your cards is the section to cross off the year – I have on occasion looked at my list and thought, “did I do my cards this month?” But it would be so easy to KNOW, December is in the back – it’s checked – it’s done. Also, changing the “birthday” to “anniversary” on the top – easy. I can now keep track of my anniversaries or anything else for that matter. Put a card in the June file as a reminder that a friend is expecting their child in June. Put a card in May to remind you of a graduation coming up. I think I have a new system to keep track of my card making. Thanks for the great idea.

  43. Courtney says:

Hello! I appreciate all your information and fun videos. Are you going to be updating your Birthday index card PDF – maybe delete the past years and start with 2019? THANKS!!

  44. Adela Rivera says:

    Hi Jennifer,
I’m your biggest fan. I just discovered you a few months ago and I’m obsessed with your YouTube videos. I don’t do social media.
I’m a former teacher, mother of 4, happily married to my hubby an engineer. Just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. I gifted him a scrapbook with our love story… that’s how I got into crafting.
You have inspired me tremendously with card making. I so blessed to have found you. You are an answer to my prayers.
I teach Sunday school and have used many of your card ideas to bless my students. I especially like the scratch off Valentine’s cards. You are extremely generous to offer your templates free of charge.
I’m also blessing teachers, family & friends with a set of all occasions cards thanks to your mass production ideas.
It’s lots of hard work & expensive hobby but it brings me so much joy to create cards & gift them. People have been asking me to sell them… but I will only gift them as it’s a gesture of love….
Just came across your birthday organizer box! Love it! Thanks a bunch!!!!
Do you happen to have a revised pdf starting with 2022?
    [email protected]
That’s my next project…before I print this one, I wanted to ask.
Love you so much! You are the absolute best teacher ever! I feel like I’m getting a master’s degree in card making with your tutorials.
May God continue to bless you with great health & multiple your generosity.
    Adela
