Behind the Scenes

She lies on her bed and cries as she replays the last incident over and over again in her mind. He goes about his business as if nothing happened. Back to the office, to the gym, to the little league game, or to the church meeting. Her body is numb and her mind is foggy. “If it is no big deal – why do I hurt so badly? Why does my heart feel like it’s breaking in two? Why do I feel so hopeless? Why I am so afraid? Maybe he’s right – I’m just over sensitive. I am overreacting again. I know better than to bring up the finances. What was I thinking? I am so stupid!”

Meanwhile…
Satan laughs. “She’s buying it again. What an idiot.” The demons sneer and they continue to feed her the same lies that have kept her bound for years.

God tenderly collects her tears as they fall and he weeps. He has seen enough. He commands his angels to attend to her and they fill the room. The demons hiss and stand their ground. “This is our territory! Do you think she is really going to make a change when all he did was a little shoving and screaming? Please! She stayed when he pulled her hair and she stayed when he threatened to kill her okay? She’s not going anywhere and she’s not changing a thing. She believes every lie we’re selling and we are in control.” A thick darkness fills the room. “And we aren’t going to stop until she’s dead.” The angels draw their swords and look towards their heavenly commander. “Just give the word.”

“Give her a minute.” The Creator speaks firmly and the angels stand at the ready. The room is silent except for her sobs. She wipes her tears with her sleeve and looks towards the sky.

“Jesus help me.” She utters the Name that is above all names and everything changes. He enters the room and the demons shriek and flee in terror. He sits on the edge of the bed and strokes her hair as she cries. “I am here. I have always been here. I love you. If only you would stop believing lies about who you are and who I am. You do not have to live this way. I want to set you free. I was born to set you free. I died to set you free. I rose again to set you free. This is not my will for you and it never was.”

The tears wane and the presence of God has ministered to her yet again. The battle is over for now, but another is bound to come. The battle will rage on and on until she makes the choice to allow Jesus to free her or she is overcome by evil.

Are you being abused? Pray and call on the name of Jesus. Is someone you love being abused? Pray and call on the name of Jesus. Prayer is the weapon that changes things behind the scenes and that is the only way to have victory over darkness.

“For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.” Second Corinthians 10:4

A rainbow appears over the home of someone who is trying to get free from abuse. She has been praying and God has given her an answer: Don't believe those lies, a life of abuse is not my will for you. Trust me, and I will rescue you.
